Love Food Hate Waste

We all hate wasting money, so why do we waste so much food? Did you know that Northamptonshire residents send around 66,000 tonnes of food to landfill every year? That is around 36% of all rubbish in landfill!

But help is at hand to show just how easy it is to cut the waste and help put valuable pennies back in your pocket. By following our top tips the average family could save £50 a week!

  • Write a shopping list and only buy what you know you need
  • Avoid tempting offers like BOGOF on tasty treats if you cannot eat everything in time
  • Do a stock check in the cupboards before going to the shop so you don't double up on things you don't need
  • Check the temperature of your fridge to ensure everything stays cool.
  • Keep fruit and veg in the fridge to extent it's life, except bananas that will age quicker.
  • Cook double portions and freeze meals for another day.

The Love Food Hate Waste campaign focuses on practical ways in which we can all reduce the amount of good quality food we throw away.
