Real Nappy Week

Have you thought of using real nappies? Hundreds of Northamptonshire parents have already and love them!

Real nappies, also known as cotton nappies and washable nappies, are the natural choice for little bottoms. Real nappies come in a range of soft, absorbent fabrics with easy fastenings like Velcro and press studs. They can be just as easy to use as disposables but with the added benefit of being reusable. A simple 40 degree wash and your nappy is ready for another day.

While some might find the initial cost of a good set of reusable nappies can be a little off putting, costing somewhere between £50 and £250, by adding up the combined cost of two years worth of disposables it is clear that in the long run there are big savings to be made.

By washing and reusing real nappies the average family could save £100s, or even £1000s on subsequent children, between birth and potty training. It also reduces the strain on the environment as a result of landfilling disposable nappies.

Investing in the right kind of real nappies is a big decision so why not ‘try before you buy’. The Northamptonshire Waste Partnership has seven Nappy Loan kits that are available to hire out free of charge for two weeks. The kit contains several different types and brands of nappies for parents to test out on their baby.

There is also a nappy cashback scheme that can help with the cost of buying washable nappies. If you spend at least £60.00 on real nappies* they will refund you £25.

*£60.00 spend must be on washable nappies only and not other baby accessories.

Real Nappy Week runs from 28th April until 4th May. The campaign is run by Go Real.
